Michl, Joseph (Christian) Willibald

Michl, Joseph (Christian) Willibald, German composer; b. Neumarkt, Upper Palatinate, July 9, 1745; d. there, Aug. 1, 1816. He was the son of the composer Johann Joseph Ildefons Michl (b. Neumarkt, 1708; d. Regensburg, 1770). After training at the electoral Gymnasium and Lyceum in Munich, he studied with Placidus von Camerloher in Freising. He played double bass at the Jesuit church of St. Michael in Munich before serving as a composer to the electoral chamber (1771–78). From 1784 to 1803 he lived at the Augustinian prebendary institute. Among his output were well-crafted orch. works, chamber pieces, and sacred music.
