Llobet, Miguel

Llobet, Miguel, famous Catalan guitarist; b. Barcelona, Oct. 18, 1875; d. there, Feb. 22, 1938. He began his career as a painter, then turned to music and studied with Alegre and Tarrega. He lived in Paris (1900-14), and toured in Argentina (1910), Chile (1912), the U.S. (1915-17), and throughout Europe. From 1918 he toured extensively in Latin America. He often appeared in a duo with his former pupil, Maria Luisa Anido. Falla composed his Homenaje (for the Tombeau de Debussy) for him, and Llobet himself made many outstanding transcriptions and arrangements for the guitar.
