Kilenyi, Edward, Jr.

Kilenyi, Edward, Jr., American pianist and teacher, son of Edward Kilenyi Sr.; b. Philadelphia, May 7, 1910; d. Tallahassee, Jan. 6, 2000. He was 12 when he began private training with Dohnanyi, and then continued to study under that mentor at the Budapest Academy of Music (1927-30; diploma, 1930). In 1929 he made his professional debut in Amsterdam, and then gave concerts throughout Europe. On Oct. 21, 1940, he made his N.Y. recital debut. From 1953 to 1983 he taught at Fla. State Univ. in Tallahassee, and then was adjunct prof, there. In addition to his championship of the works of Dohnanyi, he performed the music of other Hungarian composers. His repertoire of the classics ranged from Bach to Debussy
