Ganassi dal Fontego, Sylvestro di, Italian writer on music; b. Fontego, near Venice, 1492; d. place and date unknown. He was active as an instrumentalist in Venice. He publ. important treatises on the recorder, Opera initulata Fontegara (Venice, 1535; Eng. tr., 1959), and on the viola da gamba, Regola rubertina (Venice, 1542) and Lettione seconda (Venice, 1543).
