Northern Sinfonia 1979–82. Opera début Zurich 1977 (Don Giovanni). Brit. opera début, Kent Opera 1982; Royal Opera 1983 (Manchester). Mus. dir. Kent Opera from 1984, art. dir. from 1989 until company went into liquidation in 1990. ENO 1987; Vienna 1988. Founder, Budapest Fest. Orch. 1983. Brother of Adam Fischer.
