Dorn, Alexander (Julius Paul)
Dorn, Alexander (Julius Paul), German pianist, conductor, and composer, son of Heinrich (Ludwig Egmont) Dorn; b. Riga, June 8, 1833; d. Berlin, Nov. 27, 1901. He studied with his father, and then traveled as a pianist and choral conductor. He was in Egypt (1855–65) and then settled in Berlin, where he taught piano at the Hochschule für Musik. He wrote more than 400 compositions, including masses, operettas, and a number of salon pieces for piano.
