Brixi, Franz (actually, František) Xaver

Brixi, Franz (actually, František) Xaver, Bohemian organist and composer, son of Šimon Brixi; b. Prague, Jan. 2, 1732; d. there, Oct. 14, 1771. He spent his entire life in Prague, where he studied with Segert. After serving as a church organist, he became Kapellmeister at St. Virus’s Cathedral in 1759. He composed numerous sacred works, including masses, offertories, and anthems, as well as orch. music and keyboard pieces.
