Bertin, Louise (-Angélique)

Bertin, Louise (-Angélique), French composer; b. Les Roches, near Paris, Feb. 15, 1805; d. Paris, April 26, 1877. She was a pupil of Fétis. She composed the operas Guy Mannering (Les Roches, Aug. 25, 1825), Le Loup-garou (Paris, March 10, 1827), Fausto (Paris, March 7, 1831), and La Esmeralda (to a libretto adapted by Victor Hugo from his novel Notre-Dame de Paris-, Paris, Nov. 14, 1836). She also wrote a number of instrumental works, of which 6 Ballades for Piano was publ.
