Bain, Wilfred
Bain, Wilfred, American music educator and administrator; b. Shawville, Quebec, Jan. 20, 1908; d. Bloomington, Ind., March 7, 1997. He was educated at Houghton Coll. (A.B., 1929) and York Univ. (M.A., 1936; Ed.D., 1938). He was head of the music dept. at Central Coll., S.C. (1929–30), then of voice and choral music at Houghton Coll. (1931–38). He was dean of music at North Tex. State Univ. (1938–47). In 1947 he was appointed dean of the Ind. Univ. School of Music in Bloomington. By the time he retired in 1973, it had become one of the foremost music schools in the world.
