The Witches ★★★½ 1990 (PG)

Nine-year-old boy on vacation finds himself in the midst of a witch convention, and grand high witch Huston plans to turn all children into furry little creatures. The boy, with the help of his good witch grandmother, attempts to prevent the mass transmutation of children into mice. Top-notch fantasy probably too spooky for the training wheel set. Wonderful special effects; the final project of executive producer Jim Henson. Based on Roald Dahl's story. 92m/C VHS, DVD . Anjelica Huston, Mai Zetterling, Jasen Fisher, Rowan Atkinson, Charlie Potter, Bill Paterson, Brenda Blethyn, Jane Horrocks; D: Nicolas Roeg; W: Allan Scott; C: Harvey Harrison; M: Stanley Myers. L.A. Film Critics ‘90: Actress (Huston); Natl. Soc. Film Critics ‘90: Actress (Huston).
