The Witches 1966
The Witches ★★½ The Devil's Own 1966
Gwen Mayfield (Fontaine) accepts a teaching position at Hadddaby School. She wants to put terrifying memories of work in Africa behind her, but finds that the bucolic English country town is just as dangerous. The sense of menace isn't as strong as it is in the similar “Wicker Man,” and the film isn't one of the strongest entries from the Hammer Studio, but it is up to their high standards in terms of production values and acting. 90m/C DVD . Joan Fontaine, Kay Walsh, Alec McCowen, Ann Bell, John Collin, Michele Dotrice, Gwen Ffrangcon Davies, Ingrid Brett; D: Cyril Frankel; W: Nigel Kneale; C: Arthur Grant; M: Richard Rodney Bennett.
