Titanic ★★★ 1953

Hollywoodized version of the 1912 sinking of the famous luxury liner sets the scene for the personal drama of a mother (Stanwyck) who wants to flee her husband (Webb) for a new life in America. Story gets a little too melodramatic, but it's not a bad retelling of the sea tragedy. Film is quite effective in conveying the panic and the calm of the actual sinking. A 20footlong model of the ship was built for the recreation of that fateful moment when the “Titanic” hit the inevitable iceberg. 98m/B VHS, DVD . Clifton Webb, Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Wagner, Richard Basehart, Audrey Dalton, Thelma Ritter, Brian Aherne; D: Jean Negulesco; W: Charles Brackett, Walter Reisch, Richard L. Breen. Oscars ‘53: Story & Screenplay.
