Romantic melodrama set in the Shanghai community of Hong Kong in 1962. Newspaper editor Chow (Leung Chiu-Wai) and his wife have just moved into a new apartment across the hall from Lizhen (Cheung) and her husband. Both their respective spouses are away from home a great deal, traveling on business, so the lonely duo begin a tentative friendship. Then Chow begins to suspect his wife is having an affair and it quickly becomes apparent that it's with Lizhen's husband. Gorgeous to look at, melancholy in tone, if somewhat oblique.
