Emma 1997
Emma ★★★ Jane Austen's Emma 1997
British TV adaptation of the Jane Austen novel featuring young, matchmaking Emma (Beckinsale) wrecking havoc amongst her friends and neighbors with her would-be romantic alliances. Screenplay is truer to the book, with slightly less likable personalities than the 1996 bigscreen version. Excellent cast, and beautiful locations and costumes make this one worth seeing. A&E Network offered “Emma” after the overwhelming success of their miniseries “Pride and Prejudice,” also adapted from Austen. 107m/C VHS, DVD . GB Kate Beckinsale, Mark Strong, Samantha Bond, Prunella Scales, Bernard Hepton, Raymond Coulthard, Dominic Rowan, James Hazeldine, Samantha Morton, Lucy Robinson, Olivia Williams; D: Diarmuid Lawrence; W: Andrew Davis.
