Crimson Gold ★★½ Talaye Sorgh 2003

Hussein (Emadeddin) is a simple, warveteran-turned-pizza-deliveryman, but the opening sequence shows him in the midst of a botched jewelry-store robbery that ends abruptly and grimly—resulting in tragedy. What follows are flashbacks (compelling yet often slow-paced) that attempt to define his behavior and the social rejection that led him down his destructive path. Set in Tehran and based on a true story, this has—like other Panahi films—been banned in Iran. Farsi with subtitles. 95m/C DVD . IA Hossain Emadeddin, Kamyar Sheisi, Azita Rayeji, Shahram Vaziri, Ehsan Amani, Pourang Nakhael, Kaveh Najmabadi, Saber Safael; D: Jafar Panahi; W: Abbas Kiarostami; C: Hossain Djafarian; M: Peyman Yazdanian.
