Chéri, Rose (1824–1861)

Celebrated French comedian. Name variations: Cheri. Born Rose Marie Cizos at Étampes, France, on October 27, 1824; died at Passy, near Paris, on September 22, 1861; married M. Lemoine Montigny, in May 1847.

The celebrated French comedian Rose Chéri first appeared at the Gymnase on March 30, 1842. In 1846, the role of Clarissa Harlowe placed her in the first rank of her profession. She married M. Lemoine Montigny in May 1847 and continued to perform under the name Rose Chéri.
