Queen of Castile. Name variations: Berengeria, Berengare; (Spanish) Berenguela of Barcelona. Born in 1108; died on February 3, 1149, in Valencia; daughter of Raymond Berengar I, count of Provence, also known as Ramón Berenguer IV, conde de Barcelona (r. 1131–1162), andDouce I , countess of Provence; married second husband Alphonso VII (1105–1157), king of León and Castile (r. 1126–1157), in 1128; children: Sancho III (b. 1134), king of Castile (r. 1157–1158);Constance of Castile (d. 1160, who married Louis VII, king of France); Garcia (died young);Sancha of Castile and Leon (d. 1179, who married Sancha VI, king of Navarre); Ferdinand II (1137–1188), king of Leon. Following Berengaria's death, Alphonso marriedRyksa of Poland (d. 1185); he also had a daughter,Urraca of Castile (d. 1179), withGontrada Perez .
