Sancha of Castile and Leon (1164–1208)

Queen of Aragon. Born on September 21, 1164; died on November 9, 1208, in Sijena; daughter of Alphonso VII, king of Castile and Leon (r. 1126–1157), and hissecond wife Ryksa of Poland (d. 1185); became second wife of Alphonso II (1152–1196), king of Aragon (r. 1162–1196), count of Barcelona (r. 1162–1196), and count of Provence as Alphonso I (r. 1166–1196), on January 18, 1174; children: Alphonso II, count of Provence and Forcalquier (d. 1209); Pedro also known as Peter II the Catholic (1174–1213), king of Aragon (r. 1196–1213); Ramon Berengar, count of Ampurias; Fernando; Constance of Aragon (d. 1222). Alphonso II's first wife was Matilda of Portugal (c. 1149–1173).
