Adasse (fl. 1348)

German moneylender. Jewish resident of Gorlitz, Germany; granted citizen's rights around 1348.

Adasse, whose name is found in the town citizenship records of Gorlitz, became wealthy lending money to the Christian residents of the town and attained a high social standing in her community. Eventually, the town leaders bestowed upon her the privileges of citizenship, a rare event for a medieval townswoman and extremely rare for a Jew.
