Representing Labour, stood unsuccessfully in the general elections (1981, 1982, 1987, 1989); elected to the 27th Dáil (1992–1997) for Dublin South; championed the Ethics in Public Office Act (1995) and Freedom of Information Act (1997); defeated in general elections (1997 and 2002).
