Queen of Mercia. Name variations: Aelfwyn; AElfwyn; Elfwynn. Born c. 882; dau. of Ethelflaed (869–918), Lady of the Mercians, and Ethelred II, ealdorman of Mercia; m. a West Saxon noble.
On death of mother, briefly ruled Mercia (June-Dec 918); reign was cut short by her uncle Edward the Elder, who removed her to Wessex.
