Born Cristina Frederica Victoria, June 13, 1965, in Madrid, Spain; dau. of Sophia of Greece (b. 1938) and Juan Carlos I, king of Spain (r. 1975–); m. Inaki Urdangarín y Liebaert (professional athlete), Oct 4, 1997; children: Juan (b. 1999).
Third in line to the Spanish throne, married a Basque commoner in a 13th-century cathedral in Barcelona (1997), the city's 1st royal wedding in over 600 years.
