Carter, Ann Shaw (1922–)
American aviator. Born Dec 5, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY.
Trained as a Women's Army Service Pilot (WASP) during World War II; was the 1st woman to be granted her helicopter rating, at the Westchester Country Airport in NY (June 9, 1947); was an original member of the Whirly Girls, the 1st association of women helicopter pilots (formed 1957).
