Brennan, Anna Teresa (1879–1962)
Australian lawyer and activist. Born Sept 2, 1879, in Emu Creek, Victoria; died Oct 11, 1962; daughter and 13th child of Michael (farmer) and Mary (Maher) Brennan; attended St. Andrew's College, Bendigo; awarded law degree from University of Melbourne, 1909.
Advocate for women's rights, was a senior partner in her brother's firm, specializing in general and matrimonial law; lobbied for the reform of divorce laws; helped establish the Catholic Women's Social Guild (1916), whose goal was an expanded role for Catholic women in social and political reform; was a founding member of a Melbourne branch of St. Joan's Alliance (1936), an association of Catholic lay women, serving as president (1938–45, 1948–62).
