Brenet, Michel [ Bobillier, Antoinette Christine Marie] (b Lunéville, 1858; d Paris, 1918). Fr. musicologist. Wrote a history of the orchestral symphony in 1882, a biog. of Grétry (1884), and a study of Berlioz in Germany and his first opera (1889). Also biographies of Ockeghem, Rameau, Palestrina, Haydn, and Handel, an historical dictionary of mus. (pubd. posthumously), and many other works of research. Noted for accuracy and precision.
