Ancelot, Marguerite (1792–1875)
French author. Born Marguerite Louise Virginie Chardon in Dijon, France, in 1792; died in 1875; married Jacques Arsène Polycarpe Ancelot (1794–1854, a French dramatist).

Marguerite Ancelot's published writing appears either in conjunction with and as part of her husband's work or as chronicles of salon life. She is remembered as a kindly but insistent force in the work of her husband and those who visited her Paris salon, which was one of the most fashionable during the period of the July monarchy (1831–1848). The salon is mentioned in letters or memoirs of the time, and Ancelot is cited as being influential in the works of Prosper Merimée and Stendhal.
