Lowell Smith
American aviator who flew during the first air circumnavigation of the globe in 1924. During this trip, Smith helped fly, performed maintenance on the aircraft, and even slept on the wings to guard the aircraft from sightseers at night. This journey, which spanned over 27,000 miles (43,500 km) and five months, began with four planes, two of which completed the circumnavigation.
