Palaquium (family Sapotaceae) A genus of medium to large rain-forest trees which yield moderate to very hard, sometimes siliceous, timber (bitis or nyatoh). P. gutta provides the rubber-like gutta percha. There are over 115 species, occurring from Taiwan to Malesia and the Solomon Islands.
