Drude, Carl Georg Oscar (1852–1933) A German botanist and biogeographer, who described vegetation types in terms of formations. He published many works, including Handbuch der Pflanzengeographie (1890) and Oekologie der Pflanzen (1913), and in 1910 began a collaboration with H. E. Engler to produce Die Vegetation der Erde. Drude was professor of botany and director of the botanic garden at the University of Dresden.
