Ceratiidae (deep-sea devil; subclass Actinopterygii, order Lophiiformes) A family of short, thickset, deep-sea fish, with a large mouth, minute eyes, and a long, fleshy ‘lure’ above the eyes. The much smaller males are attached to the females, remaining in a parasitic association.
