KORÈNE, VERA
KORÈNE, VERA (1901–1996), French actress. Born in Paris, Vera Korène starred in Marcel Pagnol's play Topaz (1928) and joined the Comédie Française, playing mostly classical roles in Racine, Molière, and Shakespeare. She also appeared in films from 1933. In 1940 the Vichy government deprived her of French citizenship and she had to flee the country. She returned to the Comédie Française as actress and director after the war and retired in 1956.
