JAKOBSON, MAX

JAKOBSON, MAX (1923– ), Finnish journalist and diplomat. Born in Viborg, Jakobson worked in the Finnish News Agency and later in the Finnish department of the bbc. He was also the correspondent for Helsingin Sanomat and Uusi Suomi. He was press attaché at the Finnish embassy in Washington (1953–59) and chief of the press department of the Finnish Foreign Ministry (1962–65). In 1965 he was made permanent representative of Finland at the United Nations. He remained in the Foreign Ministry until 1974, also serving as Finland's ambassador to Sweden. He wrote Finland in the New Europe (1998).
