Shōjō Daibosatsu
Shōjō Daibosatsu. The great bodhisattva worshipped at the Shōjō shrine at Kumano in Japan. He is an incarnation of Amida (gongen), who demonstrates (shōjō, ‘prove and bear witness’) the effectiveness of Amida's route to salvation.
