Baʿal teshuvah

Baʿal teshuvah (Heb., ‘master of repentance’; also chozer bi-teshuvah). One who returns to the observance of religion, and also (more recently) a Jew who is newly observant. The Baʿal Teshuvah movement was a reaction in Israel to the miraculous outcome of the Six Day War, and elsewhere to what seemed to be the excesses of personal freedom in society.
