Veii (vē´ī), ancient city of Etruria, 11 mi (18 km) NW of Rome, Italy. One of the most powerful member cities of the Etruscan League, it was constantly at war with Rome. It fell (c.396 BC) to the Roman army under Camillus after a 10-year siege. The city was an important center of Etruscan civilization and was especially noted for its statuary.
