Veinus, Abraham

Veinus, Abraham, American musicologist; b. N.Y., Feb. 12,1916. He was educated at the City Coll. of N.Y. (B.A., 1936), Cornell Univ. (M.A., 1937), and Columbia Univ. (1946-48). From 1948 until his retirement in 1982 he was prof, of musicology and fine arts at Syracuse Univ. In addition to his articles and reviews on various aspects of music and art, he publ. the books The Concerto (1944; 2nded., rev, 1964), The Victor Book of Concertos (1948), The Pocket Book of Great Operas (with H. Simon, 1949), and Understanding Music: Style, Structure and History (with W. Fleming, 1958).
