Veit Wenzel Heinrich (actually, Václav Jinařich)

Veit Wenzel Heinrich (actually, Václav Jinařich), Bohemian composer; b. Řepnice, near Leitmeritz, Jan. 19, 1806; d. Leitmeritz, Feb. 15, 1864. He studied organ and piano and took courses in law and philosophy at the Univ. of Prague; hewas active as a private music teacher while pursuing a legal career. He was briefly music director in Aachen (1841) but then decided to devote himself fully to composition. He helped to advance the cause of the Romantic movement in music in his homeland.

CHAMBER: 3 quintets for 2 Violins, Viola, and 2 Cellos (1835); 2 quintets for 2 Violins, 2 Violas, and Cello (1837, 1851); 4 string quartets (1836, 1838, 1839, 1840); Piano Trio (1860); Les Adieux for Cello and Piano (c. 1845); piano pieces. VOCAL: Hymnus (1840); Mass in D major (1858); Te Deum (1863); Böhmens bester Bergsegen,cantata (1845); part-songs for men’s voices; solo songs.
