Noailles, Adrien Maurice, duc de
Adrien Maurice Noailles, duc de (ädrēăN´ mōrēs´ dük də nōī´yə), 1678–1766, marshal of France. He fought in the War of the Spanish Succession and was head of the finance council under the regent Philippe II d'Orléans. He distinguished himself in the War of the Polish Succession and the War of the Austrian Succession and exercised considerable influence on the development of French foreign policy.
