Eugenio Montero Ríos (āōōhā´nyō mōntā´rō rē´ōs), 1832–1914, Spanish statesman and jurist. He was professor of canon law at the universities of Oviedo, Santiago, and Madrid. He entered the Cortes (1869), was several times in the cabinet, and helped effect several reforms. Montero Ríos was active in securing the accession of Amadeus and was one of his most faithful supporters. A liberal, he was chief delegate to the Paris conference that concluded the Spanish-American War (1898) and was premier in 1905.
