Minnehaha Falls
Minnehaha Falls (mĬn´ēhä´hä) [laughing water], 53 ft (16.1 m) high, SE Minn., in Minnehaha Creek, which flows from Lake Minnetonka (23 sq mi/60 sq km) SE to the Mississippi River. The surrounding area, including the gorge cut by the receding falls, is a state park. Most of the year only a thin trickle of water passes over the falls. The name Minnehaha is immortalized in Longfellow's Hiawatha.
