Friedrich Löffler (frē´drĬkh löf´lər), 1852–1915, German bacteriologist. From 1888 he taught hygiene at the Univ. of Greifswald. Among his many contributions to bacteriology are his demonstrations of the relationship of diphtheria to the organism known as the Klebs-Löffler bacillus and of foot and mouth disease to a virus.
