Furtwängler, Adolf
Adolf Furtwängler (ä´dôlf fŏŏrt´vĕng-lər), 1853–1907, German archaeologist, authority on ancient vases and gems. He made important excavations at Olympia, Aegina, and Orchomenus and wrote the authoritative Meisterwerke der griechischen Plastik [masterpieces of Greek sculpture] (1893), of which a smaller edition was later translated into English.
