Estrades, Godefroy, comte d'
Godefroy Estrades, comte d' (gōdfrwä´ kôNt dĕsträd´), 1607–86, French diplomat, marshal of France. An accomplished soldier, he negotiated (1662) the purchase of Dunkirk from the English. He served with King Louis XIV in the third of the Dutch Wars and was made marshal in recognition of his successes at Limbourg and Liège. He later negotiated the Treaty of Nijmegen (1678).
