Amiel, Henri Frédéric
Henri Frédéric Amiel (äNrē´ frādārēk´ ämyĕl´), 1821–81, Swiss critic. He was unsuccessful and unnoticed during his life, but the posthumous publication of his Journal intime (1883, tr. of augmented ed. 1936) aroused great interest. It is a document of scrupulous self-observation.
