Folquet de Marseille (b ?Marseilles, c.1155; d Toulouse, 1231). Fr. troubadour, thought also to be rich merchant. Career as troubadour extended from court at Aragon in 1180 to 1195, when he entered Cistercian order. Est. Univ. of Toulouse 1229. In Dante's Paradiso (canto ix), Folquet tells of his early ‘sinful life’ and his conversion. His troubadour songs were ed. by S. Stronski in Kraków, 1910.
