Hidalgo, Enrique Agustín (1876–1915)

Enrique Agustín Hidalgo (b. 28 August 1876; d. 27 September 1915), Guatemalan satirical writer. Born in Guatemala City, Hidalgo did not finish secondary school owing to family financial problems. He worked as a newspaper writer, businessman, and teacher. As a writer he used the pseudonym "Felipillo," the name of an Indian interpreter who had accompanied the Spanish conquistadores. His most famous work of humor, the poem Latas y latones, was published posthumously in 1916.
