Oddfellow a member of a fraternity organized under this name, typically for social or benevolent purposes. The name ‘Odd Fellows’ appears to have been originally assumed by local social clubs formed in various parts of England during the 18th century, usually with rites of initiation, passwords, and secret ceremonies, supposed to imitate those of Freemasonry.
