Lochinvar the hero of a ballad included in the fifth canto of Scott's Marmion. His fair Ellen is about to be married to ‘a laggard in love and a dastard in war’, when the brave Lochinvar arrives at the bridal feast, claims a dance with her, and, as they reach the door, swings the lady on to his horse, and rides off with her.
