Committee of Articles
Committee of Articles (Lords of the Articles). A steering committee of the Scottish Parliament, dating back to the 15th cent. It prepared business and drafted legislation, each estate having equal representation. The royal government had strong influence over the committee and Parliament was given little opportunity for debate or dissent. In 1640 the committee was abolished, restored in 1660, and finally dismantled in 1690 after the Glorious Revolution.
