Born November 23, 1944, in New York, NY; son of Irwin Lionel (a garment manufacturer or stockbroker, depending on the source) and Selma (maiden name, Levy) Toback; married Consuelo Sarah Churchill Vanderbilt Rusell, April 26, 1968 (divorced). Education: Harvard University, A.B., 1966; Columbia University, M.A., 1967.
